Gallant is an artist whose music I have an inexplicable connection to. Since the first time I heard "If It Hurts" and "Manhattan" on Soundcloud in 2013, I've been looking forward to every single new song he's put out, Zebra-EP, and finally, his album Ology. 

Although he has released a new album with noticeably different production, the Maths Time Joy version of "Jupiter Grayscale" has been among my favorite songs for a couple years now. It could be nostalgia, but there is something incredibly intimate about this song. I've listened to it driving down the 110 in Los Angeles and on long walks across the Mass Ave bridge. I've listened to it when I'm sad and when I'm happy, and it always makes me feel more. 

A close second is "Forfeit", also off the 2014 Zebra EP. 

Despite my attachment to the more ethereal production of the first EP, Ology is captivating in it's own way. It sounds much more mature, and in my opinion, better highlights Gallant's vocal capabilities. My favorite off the album is "Bourbon"

Seeing him live yesterday at The Sinclair was a bit surreal. I wanted to see him when he toured with Sufjan Stevens and when he opened for Zhu, but timing didn't work out until this time around. 

His stage presence was overwhelming. It was a performance was that deeply pained yet unquestionably optimistic, and the best way to end the summer and kick off the new school year.
