updates (since august…)

  • 2020 is legitimately feeling like a bad drama—Justice RBG died and then Trump released his $750 tax returns. The nomination for the new justice became a super-spreader event. There was a “debate”. Trump knowingly attended more events after testing positive, got hospitalized with COVID, endangered all of his staff, and continued to spread misinformation while sick. He does not seem to grasp the concept of empathy and cannot acknowledge that he would likely be dead if he didn’t have top tier medical staff and treatment at his disposal. He’s now holding rallies again

  • I did a shoot with Amber Liu, probably my first ever “real” portraiture project. There are more images that I’m pretty excited about but this is the only one that has been shared publicly.

  • I hit a 365 day streak on Duolingo with Chinese!

  • We made it to Newport Beach for the first time since the pandemic started

  • I bought my dream bike of many, many years—a Wabi Classic—and have been enjoying the single speed life again. I’ve never excelled at any sort of endurance activity (literally none, making the mile time was the hardest part of staying on the basketball team in high school), but have arbitrarily decided that I want to ride a century on a single speed bike (probably the “Amtrak Century” from Irvine to San Diego) by 2021. In service of this goal, I’m trying to learn how to bike on rollers for the hot and miserable days of this endless California super-summer. I also successfully learned how to ride with clipless pedals without falling over!

  • David Chang’s Eat a Peach was a really enjoyable memoir—I appreciated his reflection on Asian American culture, his family upbringing, and his attitude towards failure and constantly pushing his comfort zone

  • Going to Zion/Bryce for a week on election week. I’ve wanted to visit Utah for years and years now to take extremely cliche nature pictures and I’m excited that it’s finally happening

  • Exploring the concept of month-to-month Airbnb living in Washington State

  • The hottest temperature ever recorded on earth — 130 degrees F — occurred mid-August in California, which is insane to think about

  • David Attenborough’s A Life on Our Planet is well worth a watch for anyone interested in understanding how our world may change within our lifetimes
