Below is a picture of the whole expanded setup upside-down. The attached door handles anchor to my car to keep the entire thing from flying forward in the event of an accident or extremely hard stop.

I originally designed the sleeping platform to lie on top of two 18 inch tall storage bins. It…sort of worked, but as you can see in the picture, it was already bending under my weight and would definitely not work for two people. I liked the idea of having the bins for organization, but ended up deciding to make a bench that could either serve as a chill camp bench or the bed support. I opted for hairpin legs for absolute stability and ease of assembly.

pocket holes and mini project

I’m interested in improving my woodworking skills further, so I recently acquired a hand planer and some other small tools for little weekend garage projects. This past weekend, I set up my jack plane and evened out some warped common board I bought from Home Depot. I learned how to do pocket holes for the first time, made some angled cuts on the circle saw, and put together a little foot stool.

My next project is making custom covers for the bench support that can serve as padded seating or a sleeping pillow. I figured out how to sew zipper seams, and also plan on making a custom cover for the mattress that will be easier to clean and wipe down than the provided cotton cover.
